Automotive Performance GEO: Preserve the Sales First Screen, Add Engineering Guidance
North American automotive-performance brand
Nineteen engineering-selection paragraphs were implemented on three existing ecommerce pages. All three received exact AI citations, while the first-screen buying journey stayed intact.

The Challenge
Basic SKU tables did not answer engineering-fit questions, while the established first-screen sales experience needed to remain intact.
Our Solution
Gravity industry case 03 · Automotive aftermarket and performance | First-screen purchase area preserved · 19/19 engineering paragraphs implemented · Cited by all three platforms
Key result | What changed | Supporting detail |
|---|---|---|
19 / 19 paragraphs | All additive engineering-selection modules implemented in detail sections | Historical pre-change snapshots showed 0/19. The original first-screen buying journey was preserved, reducing disruption to the sales experience. |
3 / 3 pages | All three existing pages were cited in retesting | Carburetor collection, PTFE fuel-line, and fuel-tank pages received 8 exact citations in total. |
All 3 platforms | Carburetor page cited by ChatGPT, Gemini, and Perplexity | Answer text also adopted the principle that carburetor selection must consider use and fuel pressure, not CFM alone. |
1. The Challenge: Changing the First Screen Could Disrupt Sales, but Basic Product Tables Could Not Answer Engineering Questions
In the North American performance-automotive aftermarket, independent ecommerce sites face two competing needs:
- The first-screen purchase area is a carefully refined conversion asset. Prices, specification selectors, add-to-cart buttons, and delivery promises directly support human shoppers. Business teams do not want that area turned into a lengthy manual solely to accommodate AI.
- Traditional SKU size tables cannot answer engineering-fit questions. Buyers ask ChatGPT, Perplexity, and Gemini questions such as: “For E85, should I use PTFE or conventional CPE fuel hose, and what horsepower do AN6 and AN8 support?” “Is CFM enough to select a carburetor? How should vehicle weight and transmission affect mechanical versus vacuum secondaries?” “How do I match a replacement tank's fuel-sender ohm range to the original gauge?” Without this logic on existing pages, AI offered generic airflow- or size-based advice and sometimes recommended competitors' guides.
2. Gravity's Work: Non-Intrusive Additions—19 Engineering Paragraphs below an Unchanged Purchase Area
To support both the human purchase experience and AI's adoption of engineering criteria, Gravity used Zero-Intrusion Additive Engineering:
- Preserved 100% of the first-screen purchase area: the product title, price, variant selectors, and add-to-cart journey remained intact, with no destructive changes to the existing visuals or interactions.
- Added 19 structured engineering-selection paragraphs in the lower detail sections of 3 core existing pages:
- Carburetors collection: why CFM alone is insufficient; the displacement × RPM × volumetric-efficiency formula; street cruising versus drag-racing use; vacuum versus mechanical secondaries; and fuel-pressure boundaries.
- PTFE fuel-line page: compatibility tables for fuels such as E85 and methanol, plus operating-pressure and minimum-bend-radius limits for AN6, AN8, and AN10.
- Aluminum fuel-cell tank page: sender-resistance matching, including 0–90 ohms; anti-slosh foam maintenance intervals; and vent-valve installation rules.
- Verified live implementation paragraph by paragraph: automated readback and snapshot comparison confirmed 19/19 additions present verbatim in live HTML, versus
0/19in historical pre-change snapshots.

3. Observed Results: All Three Pages Received Exact Citations and Their Selection Criteria Were Adopted
The subsequent multiplatform buying-task retest showed strong penetration by these additive modules:
Existing page with additive modules | Live module verification | Exact citations and platforms | Engineering criteria adopted in answers |
|---|---|---|---|
1. Carburetors collection | Present verbatim | 5 exact citations; ChatGPT, Gemini, and Perplexity all cited it | AI explicitly adopted the new logic: “Carburetor selection cannot rely on CFM alone; engine use, vehicle weight, secondary actuation—vacuum versus mechanical—and matching fuel pressure must be considered together.” |
2. PTFE fuel-line page | Present verbatim | 2 exact citations, both Gemini | Cited E85 resistance and AN-size selection limits, clearly distinguishing PTFE liners from conventional rubber-hose applications. |
3. Performance fuel-tank page | Present verbatim | 1 exact citation, Perplexity | Extracted tank capacity, sender-resistance matching, and installation precautions accurately. |
Total, 3 existing pages | 19 / 19 paragraphs, 100% implemented | 8 exact-page citations; all 3 / 3 pages cited | Traditional product pages became engineering-selection sources AI used, without touching the first-screen buying area. |
Methodological insight: GEO does not require rebuilding an ecommerce website. This case demonstrates a practical additive path: preserve the established first-screen buying journey and place engineering constraints and comparison tables in the middle or lower page. It reduced disruption to the sales experience while supplying the criteria that AI subsequently cited and adopted.
