1. The Challenge: A Crowded Category and Cautious AI Answers to Difficult Buyer Questions

Fashion lingerie and holiday-gifting DTC brands face AI-search challenges unlike those of durable goods:

  1. Buyers often ask with demanding negative or boundary constraints. “How can I choose a gift for my partner without getting the size wrong or seeming tasteless?” “Is every product from this brand risk-free and 100% suitable for every body type?” “What restrictions apply to sensitive skin and returns?” Without clear scenario-specific suitability boundaries on the official site, models often retreat into vague disclaimer language or avoid recommending the brand.
  2. Open-market gifting competition is intense, and structured shopping anchors are missing. On high-intent occasions such as Valentine's Day, anniversaries, and bridal-party gifting, a conventional shelf organized only by bodysuits, robes, and two-piece sets makes it difficult for AI to connect a collection directly to a gifting need.

2. Gravity's Work: A Gifting-Scenarios Page, 216 Paired Retests, and Fact Governance

Using the method of starting with real buying questions and connecting product facts, official content, external evidence, and AI answers to identify recommendation gaps, Gravity completed the following loop:

  1. Built a structured Gifting-Scenarios Buying Guide. Rather than relying only on traditional product categories, the guide organizes decisions by relationship stage, recipient style preferences, sizing tolerance—such as forgiving robes or adjustable designs versus precise-size garments—and the 30-day return-and-exchange benefit.
  2. Established four question clusters and 216 original-question paired T0/T1 comparisons. The evaluation distinguishes brand anchoring, controlled rephrasing, negative boundaries, and unbranded natural discovery, using the same questions in both periods across ChatGPT, Gemini, and Perplexity.
  3. Fact-checked 342 candidate brand statements and proposed minimal wording alignment. Of the 342 candidates extracted from AI answers, 170 were supported by official-site evidence, 151 awaited verification, and 21 were not assessed; there were 0 factual conflicts within the checked scope. Where wording differed across a few official pages, Gravity proposed one-sentence alignment preserving core benefits such as 30-day returns and exchanges. Those changes remain pending client approval before launch.
Exact citations and answer adoption: 34 citations, all 7 target pages cited, and 19 of 19 automotive modules implemented.

3. Observed Results: Conditional Recommendations More Than Doubled, and the Gifting Page Became an Answer Framework

Business significance and interpretation

Weekly core dedicated AI-engine crawls

377 / week

12,414 / week, +3,192.84%

Dedicated AI-retrieval access expanded substantially, with frequent fetching of the new gifting page and core collection pages.

Gifting-page citation and adoption

No scenario-level shopping anchor

Directly cited by ChatGPT and adopted as a recommendation framework

When buyers asked for gifting advice, ChatGPT cited the guide and organized its answer around the page's “scenario + sizing tolerance” structure.

ChatGPT conditional recommendations on negative-control questions, 36 ChatGPT API boundary questions

25.00%, 9/36

52.78%, 19/36; +27.78 pp

Instead of simply avoiding difficult “Does it suit everyone?” or “How do I avoid a bad choice?” questions, more than half the answers clearly recommended an appropriate brand collection under specified body-type or scenario conditions. This is the rate for ChatGPT's 36 negative-control questions, not the aggregate rate across three platforms.

Unbranded natural discovery, Perplexity

5.56%

8.33%, +2.77 pp

Early growth on category questions with no brand name also clarified the next priority for broadening open-market content reach.

Methodological insight: in consumer goods and DTC, GEO is not only about “getting AI to mention the brand.” Transparent official boundaries and scenario guides can give AI a stronger basis for confident conditional recommendations when consumers raise real, difficult concerns.
